Something I Learned About People if They Did It Once Theyll Do It Again

I very rarely write articles similar this. Ones that don't really have a lot of hope. Ones where I say what'southward been on my mind for while with trivial regard to whether people will similar it or not.

But friends, I'm past wanting to be liked.

If you lot want to read me, fine. If you lot want to annotate nasty stuff, fine. If you lot want to disagree with me, fine. If you unfollow me, fine.

I'm through with caring.

Why practice I care then much, anyhow?

My relationships have fizzled out recently. I've caught a lot of heat from nasty people on social media. I've realized a lot of people don't care near YOU.

I've spent hours of fourth dimension I don't have helping people who don't care and who, sometimes, fifty-fifty turn on me months later with an article that was clearly written for me.

Or a tweet.

Or an email.

The truth is it's easy as hell to exist nasty on the internet — and I'g starting to see all the colorful shades of people equally my platform grows and grows.

And its got me in a actually crappy mood — largely because I believe in people. That's my message. But now I'm starting not to. I'thou questioning how I spend my time.

I'm wondering why I'm spending 4 hours going dorsum and forth with someone on Twitter or even 15 minutes writing an email to someone who didn't like a tiny aspect of my Complimentary Electronic mail COURSE about Medium trying to win them back as a reader.

I mean, damn, it's free.

Let me go into what y'all clicked on this commodity for. Gear up for some truth bombs — I don't care if they land on your feelings.

1. People Are Actually Insecure (Fifty-fifty When They Say They Aren't)

Fun Fact: When people annotate on your manufactures disagreeing with yous, you can pretty much chalk that up to insecurity.

Similar, I know you're going to say that'southward incorrect and that people but want to take a word but you accept to call up well-nigh human being psychology for a second..

God forbid you present something to somebody that doesn't match up with their worldview.

You know how many times I've commented on an article saying I disagreed with that author in the terminal two years?

0.

Like, I'll simply let them be incorrect. Or I'll consider that I'M incorrect.

For the longest time I didn't sympathise why people responded like that.

Similar, why the hell practise you demand to go out of your manner to tell somebody they're "GROSSLY" wrong most something?

How does an commodity effect someone enough to make them sit downwards in front end of their computer for two hours and write upward a response?

Insecurity. Among other reasons.

People don't intendance near irresolute your mind. They care nigh making themselves feel improve.

You wrote something that a lot of people are agreeing with (because of the claps) but they don't, and they desire to "re-stake" their thought's relevance solely because it hurts them to think they may be wrong.

So they write you a book. Because it feels good to be heard. It feels proficient to tell yourself "You're okay, this is okay. You're really correct, meet? A lot of people are clapping for your response, y'all can go to bed now."

God forbid nosotros're incorrect.

Insecurity is the cause of nigh clashes.

So don't ask yourself "Why do I care and then much almost these people?"

Remind yourself that these people are just insecure.

2. People Don't Care Nigh You And Volition Plow On You At A Moment's Notice

The other twenty-four hours I got into a five-hr tweet storm with somebody. Information technology wasn't a "Trump-Level" tweet storm — well — actually information technology was. 😉

That'due south fine and dandy. I'm going to talk about what I learned from that tweet-storm later..simply what surprised the crap out of me was how people I had emailed dorsum and forth with/talked to for months began to turn on me.

People that had read me since tardily 2016.

I was floored.

No regard for my grapheme was given. No regard for who I was as a person was given. They just turned. Similar a zombie. That's actually a really plumbing fixtures comparison.

I didn't even outset attacking anybody on Twitter — I was only defending the ideas of a video I put out from someone who "had to disagree with me" publicly.

Like, damn. I gave some of these people so much.

Only people forget. People don't give a damn what happened before.

People plough. People don't intendance about you. Expect the same to happen to you.

Again, why practise I intendance then much?

3. People Are Only In Your Life For Seasons

I could say you'll keep all your friends until the day yous die and that your relationships volition age similar fine wine…

But I could also say that unicorns exist.

Doesn't make it true.

Most of my friendships have come and gone. Some take come up and gone a few times — only they haven't really stayed.

People forget.

4. Give, But Don't Give Too Much

I probably waste matter about 30% of my work day giving to people that will never come in contact with me ever again.

You lot're probably going to say that's non a waste considering it's good to assistance people/good karma but I'one thousand going to tell yous to agree your horses on that.

I desire to help people that are decent — so information technology was a damn waste.

I want to help progress people that are WORTHY of being progressed.

I don't want to help people that just want to milk me for all I'thousand worth. It's time I first acting like I have 50,000 followers and stop responding to literally everybody that wants my attending.

My attention is valuable.

I've said this twice in this article already..

People forget.

You give so much because you lot care and desire them to succeed — and they return information technology with sarcasm and digs and ungratefulness.

This hurts. This makes you not want to requite anymore. This makes you feel stupid for giving in the first place.

One time over again, most people don't intendance about you, they intendance about what you lot can practice for them.

I've learned most people are just out for number 1 (even though they don't know it ) and they won't much pay attending to sh*t you did for them.

I empathize, too, that nosotros should give without expectation of return..

Merely damnit don't waste material your time on people that have without giving back. You deserve to be appreciated. Appreciation makes us happy. So go where you're appreciated.

five. People Won't Say They're Incorrect — So Terminate Trying To 'Make Them Come across Differently'

Shit, when's the last time you heard someone say they were incorrect?

I've written about how the cyberspace tin exist a great device to grow because you put your ideas out in that location, people respond with theirs, and you're able to now sharpen your original ideas/self because of information technology.

This is non how information technology works in the real globe.

The in a higher place conventionalities assumes that both parties care for each other well and are willing to alter their opinion about something.

Near times how this works is someone starting time calls you a bunch of names and and then angrily gets their point beyond so calls you a bunch more names earlier they slam the door on the way out.

Similar, absurd, I guess you have REALLY potent feelings most MY FREELANCING Commodity..

Thanks for that?

Why not go debate somebody virtually something important, like gun control or something?

Hell, why debate at all?

I used to live in this rosey-colored utopia world where I thought the internet could assistance us overcome differences with ceremonious contend.

Like, damn, I grew up with the internet — how could I be and so stupid?

There is no debating here. There is mostly only detest and name calling and anger and arguments that seem 100% correct on the surface only are then far from the truth it's ridiculous.

But we frame it nicely to make our way seem right because, once more, God prevent we're wrong.

People aren't going to say they're wrong.

Just accept information technology.

six. Well-nigh People Acquaintance With You Because They Want Something From Yous

This multiplies in truth when you get big on the internet. When you have influence.

You have people that comment on your pieces and yous recall it'due south 100% genuine and y'all're enjoying the conversation simply then you go an email from them a month later that's 19 minutes long asking you if you tin help them promote their new ebook/course.

Like, damn dude, was THAT all you lot commented on my articles for?

Some people do this and are 18-carat (aka Matthew Kent — Matt I wanted to tag you so you KNOW I don't retrieve this of you). But 99% of the others simply want something. Secretly.

The whole jab, jab, jab correct hook affair doesn't piece of work for me. Don't even throw the right hook. In fact, if yous do it right I'll probably throw the right claw FOR yous. That's how thoughtful I can be.

Shout out Gary Vaynerchuk.

vii. You're Not Going To Delight Everybody, Then Accept A Stand up

Recently I got into it with someone about a video I made featuring the Philippines. Information technology'south called "The Philippines Is Not Unsafe."

It'southward meant to redeem this bang-up country in the eyes of then many who heard the news about ISIS and martial constabulary and even the killing of drug dealers and think this country is a freakin' lawless warzone.

I fabricated the video considering many Filipinos are upset about how their country is portrayed in the media.

In fact, I made this video at the request of someone from the Philippines who follows me. So I did it.

This got AN AMERICAN butthurt. It got three AMERICANS butthurt, actually. I have no idea why because they don't give an bodily f*** about the Philippines (or else perhaps they would've gone for 30 days like me — or visited it sometime in their lives).

Or, ya know, talked to a Filipino at some point.

They said I left out a couple parts. They said information technology was irresponsible. They said I didn't know what I was talking about.

Ironic that a bunch of people who take never gone to the Philippines earlier told someone who has that he doesn't know what he was talking nigh, isn't it?

I digress.

That's not the betoken. The point is that every state is dangerous. Every country has its downfalls. Yes, I could've spent my time on that video outlining all 3,950,198,304 y'all tin die in the Philippines.

The loose glass in a higher place that i eating place on that ane street corner in Manila. That one rogue coconut tree that likes to drop coconuts on the head of innocent bystanders (it's fatal sometimes). Don't forget! You lot could become run over past a tricycle!

I assume nosotros all knew that every country is unsafe in their own fashion.

Hell, America has mass shootings all the time.

My point was that the Philippines (and Mindanao specifically) is non a lawless wild, wild, westward dictatorship where people are out to kill you at every turn.

GENERALLY, it's safe. I'll stand by that until the solar day I die (to some that might happen in the Philippines). I'1000 done joking at present.

It's funny that I heard nil Filipinos complaining well-nigh my video — in fact, it has over 400 shares on Facebook and eleven,000+ views at the fourth dimension of this writing.

Information technology's the Philippines. Information technology'southward a beautiful country. It has its issues, just and then do nosotros, right?

Maybe 1 day I'll talk about their problems in more than detail, simply for the MAYBE 1–2 Americans that Actually decide to go to the Philippines because of my video..I trust you lot'll not but go far out with your life (I can't believe I seriously have to write that) — but y'all'll have the time of your life as well.

Y'all're not going to please everybody.

Take a stand.

"You have enemies? Skillful. That means you lot've stood up for something, sometime in your life."

— Winston Churchill

Why Are People So Hateful To Me?

This whole article has tried to respond one question..

Why are people and then mean to me?

Why do people hurt me?

We've already established that a lot of people out at that place are insecure. They're insecure plenty to comment on the post of a person they've never met before because their precious worldview was shaken.

Bill Maher said recently that Americans "are but going to accept to learn to alive with each other."

At that place's huge political divides in our country right at present. Like my 6th bespeak pointed out, there's no way that we're going to be able to change anybody's mind nigh anything.

Afterwards writing blog posts online for the last 5 years, I've establish that the people who agreed with me before they read my piece will support information technology, and the people who disagreed with me before they read my slice volition block me.

It's but how it is.

So why are people so mean to me and y'all?

Because they recollect irresolute opinions is a game that they can win. They can't win that game.

Stop Caring So Much — I'1000 Talking To Y'all

"Why practice I care and so much?"

E'er asked yourself that question? Good. This article will have probable helped you.

I think the core of getting hurt past people stems from caring.

We intendance too much about people. We care what they think, if we hurt them, or if we're doing plenty FOR them.

My advice to yous?

Stop giving a fuck.

Most people don't care about yous, so stop giving to the bad apples.

Accept people are going to plough on you.

And take a stand up. Have conviction. What does it thing if you disagree anyway? Nobody is really going to change (allow's be applied here).

Annotation: At that place are a few people that practise change. A few that are good apples. A few that will stay with yous until the day you die..

But this happens EXTREMELY rarely.

Live your life. Care less.

That's my new recipe for happiness.

Information technology's working well then far.
